ERIKO ISHIHARA QUARTET

 

ERIKO ISHIHARA   piano and vocals

Since beginning her career as a pianist aged 19 in Tokyo, moving to London in 1994 ,and graduating from the Guildhall School of Music in 1995, Eriko has successfully  established herself on the UK jazz scene playing at festivals and top venues such as 606 Club, the Royal Festival Hall Foyer, Pizza on the Park, as well as hotels and restaurants such as the Hilton and Dorchester.  Eriko works regularly with UK artists such as Alan Barnes, Julian Siegel, Matt Wates, Anita Wardell and Steve Fishwick.  Signed up by Ponycanyon, a major Japanese record company, she has made several albums including one with USA tenor star, Scott Hamilton, and makes regular tours to Japan, Hong Kong and Korea.  Eriko also teaches piano at North London Colourstrings Centre.

 

COLIN OXLEY   guitar

Colin graduated in 1990 from Guildhall School of Music and won the Best Soloist category of the BBC Big Band competition in that year. He was a long-standing member of Stacey Kent’s group, performing at the Montreux and North Sea jazz festivals as well as residencies in New York and San Francisco. Current work includes the Steve Fishwick Quartet, the David Newton Quartet, Mark Crook’s Quartet, Back to Basie Orchestra and John Wilson’s Orchestra. Colin has worked with American artists such as Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, John Bunch, Warren Vache and Houston Person. His recording credits include two successful piano trio albums with the late Colin Purbrook and with Dave Newton. Colin is a professor at the Guildhall School of Music.

 

ANDREW CLYNDERT   double bass

Andrew turned professional on leaving school in 1981 and when resident bassist at Manchester’s George Chisholm Club was soon backing visiting soloists such as Art Farmer and Joe Newman.  He moved to London in 1982, working with bands led by the likes of Bobby Wellins, Don Weller and Bobby Watson and with visiting soloists including Bud Shank, Ray Bryant and Lee Konitz.  After being a member of the Ronnie Scott Sextet and Quartet, subsequent tours of Britain and Europe included work with U.S. pianists Benny Green, Junior Mance and James Williams, drummer Ed Thigpen and guitarists Herb Ellis and Mundel Lowe.  Andy has been a permanent member of the bands of Stan Tracey for many years as well as appearing and recording with those of Alan Barnes, Bryan Spring and Stacey Kent.  His own record label, Trio Records, has released 22 albums by artists such as Stan Tracey, Junior Mance, Martin Drew, Peter King and Colin Purbrook amongst others.

 

MATT HOME   drums

Matt played drums from the age of eight in his native Yorkshire and progressed through brass bands to Leeds College of Music from which he graduated in 1994.  He moved to London in 1999 and has been in constant demand on the UK and European jazz scene being adaptable to all styles.  The numerous jazz artists with whom he has worked include Herb Geller, Barry Harris, Scott Hamilton, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski, Alan Barnes, Stacey Kent, Digby Fairweather, Julian Marc Stringle and Jim Mullen.  Between 2007-2010, Matt played festivals throughout Europe and South America with Ray Gelato.  Currently, he plays with the Nigel Price Organ Trio, the Matt Wates Sextet and the Gareth Lockrane Septet, all featuring young gifted players and original compositions.  The Nigel Price Organ Trio won best jazz ensemble in the 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.  Gareth Lockrane’s Septet album “No Messin” also won best jazz album in the same competition.
